In 1963, a leather craftsman named Sante Mazzarolo gave birth to a future icon. Based in the small town of Asolo, in northern Italy, and with the perennial alpine star flower as its namesake, Mr. Mazzarolo began producing the first products with the Alpinestars nickname. At that time, a new sport called motocross was becoming established and it was becoming quite popular throughout Europe. Keenly aware of the sport, Sante realized the opportunity to apply his talent and technical acumen to design a new type of shoe that meets the protection needs and demands of this beautiful yet brutal form of athletics. The revolutionary boot that Mr. Mazzarolo produced would become an archetype of motocross protection.
Shortly after establishing the company at its state-of-the-art headquarters in Maser, Northern Italy, Sante began work on a revolutionary new boot for local enduro and motocross riders who had started importing bikes from abroad and establishing off-road sport Motorcycle racing. The Sante boot immediately became an industry leader and a benchmark for racing performance. Development started from the moment the first boot was produced, with the help of feedback from riders, and by the early 1970s Roger de Coster had given Alpinestars their first World Motocross Championship award.
